The distribution of film through specific channels within diasporic groups is a known fact yet understudied. Specific lifestyles of different diasporic communities; their socio-cultural norms, values and beliefs; their communal awareness; their intra- and inter-group relations; their relationships with their homelands and host societies; technological availabilities to them and so on, may all affect how films are circulated inside and between diasporas.
Dynamics of World Cinema will study the film circulation patterns within individual diasporic groups in selected countries on each continent. Data will be collected from important sources, such as ethnic television networks and diasporic film festivals. The findings will enlighten our understanding of the distribution channels that are employed by different diasporic groups to pass along their favourite films from their homelands.
