I specialise in analysing film festival operation. It is my goal to develop a systematic means of predicting film festival longevity. I was awarded a PhD from Bond University (Queensland, Australia) for my thesis entitled ‘Basic Film Festival Operation: An Open System Paradigm'.
My work on The Levernulme Trust project ‘Dynamics of World Cinema: Transnational Channels of Global Film Distribution' is in line with the project's examination of film festivals performing as an alternate distribution network.
I have practical experience in organising and operating film festivals having been the Festival Director the Gold Coast Film Fantastic and Programme Manager of the Brisbane International Film Festival. In addition to first hand experience I have also conducted numerous interviews with film festival organisers that have been subsequently used for case studies examining the function of film festivals in contemporary cinema.
