St Andrews Statistician Awarded Big NERC Environmental Grant

Chris Sutherland, a statistician in the School of Mathematics and Statistics and a member of the Center for Research into Ecological and Environmental Modelling (CREEM) has been awarded a £4.1M grant from the Natural Environment Research Council to lead an interdisciplinary project NETGAIN to develop the science and practice of nature markets for a net positive future. The project involves the Universities of St Andrews, Aberdeen, Durham, and Glasgow and will provide funding for some 36 PhD studentships across these universities, as well as engaging with over 60 external partners from research, policy, economics, and consulting. The programme will recruit and train a new generation of multidisciplinary practitioners equipped to contribute effective, evidence-based solutions to address the world’s most urgent environmental challenges.
