Professor wins prize for work on fractal geometry
Professor Kenneth Falconer, of the Analysis Research Group, has been awarded the London Mathematical Society's Shephard Prize 2020 for his many original and profound results in fractal geometry, particularly the description, occurrence, geometrical properties and dimensional analysis of fractal sets and measures.
Much of the growth of fractal geometry over the past 40 years, from a collection of mathematical curiosities to an internationally studied field, has been attributed to Kenneth’s insight and influence, and his ability to explain complex and subtle mathematical theory in an intuitive, engaging and comprehensible manner.
