There are several William Drummonds in the Scots-Dutch brigade throughout the 1620s. Ferguson notes that one William Drummond succeeded Thomas Ewing [SSNE 8011] as sergeant-major of Brog's regiment [SSNE 7842] in 1617, and contends that this Drummond took command of Captain Robert Coutts' [SSNE 8017] company in 1621. The Sergeant-major Drummond was shot in the head and killed at the siege of Groll c. 1 August 1627 and command of his company went to Walter Murray [SSNE 8012]. Sir James Sandilands [SSNE 4996] assumed the post of sergeant-major after Drummond's death. This Drummond was also the son of Alexander Drummond of Midhope, second son of Alexander Drummond of Carnock, and so a cousin of Colonel Bartholomew Balfour.

Another William Drummond appears in Brog's regiment, and assumed command of Thomas Edmond's [SSNE 8006] company upon his transferral to the cavalry. This may have been the same William Drummond who assumed colonelcy in 1646. Further SSNE information to come.
