MAN, WILLIAM [SSNE 3034]
Text source
William Mann was an officer in Swedish service from 1612 until 1626. He was probably a Scot as most of his service was in Scottish regiments. He served first with Robert Douglas' [SSNE 6649] Vastgotar company, then with George Cunningham's [SSNE 2118] regiment. This is probably the same Captain William Man who appears in Patrick Ruthven's [SSNE 3413] Smaland regiment in 1622. He was in Herman Wrangel's Kronoborg regiment in 1623. He was in Thomas Muschamp's[SSNE 3168] Kronoborg regiment in 1626. It appears he may have died then or shortly thereafter as at that time another William Mann [SSNE 3034]entered the Swedish army as an ensign. There is a portrait of Captain William Mann from 1623 at Skokloster castle in Sweden, which was the home of the Wrangel familySwedish Krigsarkiv, Muster Roll, 1612/36; 1617/4; 1618/12; 1619/11; 1622/4; 1623/4; 1626/1,8,9.
