Nils Forbes matriculated as a student in Uppsala in 1645. After leaving education he joined the Upplands regiment in 1657. He was probably a grandson of Henry Forbes of Thainstone. Nils' parents were Jacob Forbes [SSNE 779] of Thainstone and Lillieram Chesnecopherus. He had many brothers and sisters. Nils died unmarried before 1684. Nils had several siblings including Peter [SSNE 6343], Olof [SSNE 2251], Jacob [SSNE 375], Henrik [SSNE 2235], Johan [SSNE 2246]
