at the School of Physics & Astronomy, University of St Andrews
Located within the School of Physics & Astronomy at the University of St Andrews, the Photonics Innovation Centre occupies some 250 sq.m of recently modernised and purpose built space. Accessed directly from our own entrance area on the east side of the building, the accommodation is suitably divided into 5 development laboratories, a class-1000 clean room, meeting space and office and administration areas. Laboratories are equipped to a high standard, including vibration isolated optical benching for sensitive devices and clean-air laminar flow systems. For devices highly sensitive to particulate contamination, a clean-room is available for assembly/development work. Technical support is provided by in-house technical staff having access to well-equipped mechanical and electronic service workshops.
The Centre maintains and has access to a substantial equipment infrastructure for use on projects including coherent sources, state-of-the-art diagnostic devices and CAD packages. For example;
Access to our extensive diagnostic equipment portfolio can also be arranged on a service only basis for a short time (usually remaining within our own laboratories). The Centre is also pleased to provide advice and assistance in accessing additional capability and expertise that may be available within the wider School of Physics & Astronomy.
