PH 2011 Physics 2A - Maths Revision Course

Session 2 - Complex Numbers and Vectors

Complex numbers are widely used in a number of areas of physics and are particularly useful in describing oscilla- tions and waves, both classical and quantum. You find vectors are all over physics: in mechanics, electromagnetism, etc. The material on complex numbers should be familiar to all those who have successfully passed through first year mathematics. For our direct entrants, the School of Mathematics plans to cover this material early on in the session for your benefit.

The following are from MathCentre on complex numbers and on vectors, and are used in this workshop with permission.
