Reference
Various systems are currently in
use to refer to the subsections of the Old English Martyrology. The
system presented on the Fontes Anglo-Saxonici database uses
Frank and Cameron's reference no. for the Old English Martyrology (B.19)
as a prefix, followed by the numbers which Kotzor assigned to the text's subsections
(1, 2, 3 etc.) as suffixes, thus leading to the reference nos. B.19.001,
B.19.002, B.19.003 etc..
- Frank, R., and A. Cameron, ed., A Plan
for the Dictionary of Old English (Toronto, 1973), no. B.19 [Note that
Cameron and Frank originally also assigned reference nos. to the various
manuscripts of the Old English Martyrology (B.19.1 to B.19.5),
although these would now no longer be interpreted as separate texts. For
the manuscript listed as B.19.6, see Manuscripts]
- Kotzor, G., ed., Das altenglische Martyrologium,
2 vols., Abhandlungen der Bayerischen Akademie der Wissenschaften, phil.-hist.
Kl., ns 88.1-2 (Munich, 1981) [a new subdivision of the Old English
Martyrology, with brief comments at I, xii, which divides the text
into 238 main entries and a smaller number of subsidiary entries. The numbers
assigned to these subsections can be found in the titles of the correponding
sections in Kotzor's edition, but are also listed here in the Index
of Reference Nos., Saints, Feasts, and Manuscript Contents]

M. Biggs, T. D. Hill, P. E. Szarmach, Medieval and Renaissance Texts and
Studies 74 (Binghamton, 1990), pp. 207-20 [an alternative numbering system,
devised for the sourcing project Sources of Anglo-Saxon Literary Culture
(SASLC), consisting of the Cameron/Frank prefix and a combination
of letters: B19.a, B19.b, B19.c etc.]
