Visiting Scholars
The Philosophy Department at St Andrews welcomes a number of externally funded Visiting Scholars each year to carry out research and collaborate with members of the Department on philosophical topics that relate to current research streams in The Centre for Ethics, Philosophy and Public Affairs (CEPPA), or the University of St Andrews' Arché Philosophical Research Centre for the Philosophy of Logic, Language, Metaphysics and Epistemology.
Visiting scholars are expected to participate in departmental and research-centre activities during their visit, engage collaboratively with academic staff and students, and present their research to staff and students.
The Philosophy Department provides Visiting Scholars with:
- dedicated office space (for up to three Visiting Scholars at a time)
- full access to University IT and library facilities
- a collegial research environment in which Visiting Scholars will have the opportunity to attend research talks and events, and to collaborate with and present their work and ideas to staff and students on a regular basis
Visiting Scholars may take up residence in St Andrews either during Semester 1 (Martinmas semester), Semester 2 (Candlemas Semester), or over the summer months.
We can accept half term visits, but cannot guarantee office space for half term visitors.
There is no stipend, but the Department can arrange to help Visiting Scholars find suitable living accommodation.
Applications are now open for Visiting Scholarships for the 2024-25 academic year.
