Adolph Meetkerke was an Anglo-Dutch officer in the Anglo-Dutch Brigade. His father, Adolphus van Meetkerke [SSNE 8440], was a Flemish diplomat and noble who had fled to England in the late 1580s after a coup in favor of the Earl of Leicester. Adolph Meetkerke (junior) served as a captain at least as early as 1598 and was promoted to sergeant-major in 1602 under Sir Horace Vere [SSNE 8435]. He was promoted to lieutenant-colonel in 1606 and served in this capacity during the 1614 expedition to Juliers-Cleves. He served until at least 1620. Meetkerke had three brothers who also served in the Dutch army: Nicolaas (killed at Deventer, 1591), Anthony (killed at Zutphen, 1586), and Baldwin (killed at Deventer, 1591).
