John Shortes was a captain in the Scots-Dutch Brigade between c. 1642-1645. He succeeded Captain William Lyle [SSNE 8014] on 1 July 1642 and was listed as quartermaster in Col Erskine's [SSNE 8002] regiment that year. He was deceased by 28 November 1645 and was succeeded by Captain Henry Graham [SSNE 4967].
