William Gardiner was a burgess of Abo, Finland in the early decades of the seventeenth century. He was probably the brother of, or at least related to Jacob Gardiner [SSNE 4922] and Robert [SSNE 6710]. He is noted as dead in 1625 in some sources, while others hint at 1632. In January 1633 Chancellor Axel Oxenstierna interceded on the behalf of William's surviving family who complained that Robert and Jacob had misappropriated their inheritance to their disadvantage. Given his location it is likely that he was the father of Robert Gairdner [SSNE 2329] and also of Katarina Williamsdottir Gerdner who married the Scottish merchant in Abo, Andrew Merthen.
