KLARCK, JAMES [SSNE 6578]
Text source
James Clark/Clerk and Richard Waddell [SSNE 6571] had,in 1605, constructed two ships in Norway, one of 40-lasts and the other of 30, against the royal decree banning foreigners from doing this. King Christian IV wanted them to be bought as cheaply as possible from the Scots and then brought to Copenhagen.
Some sources imply that James Clark/Clerck, realising he was in serious trouble with the king of Denmark-Norway, then fled to Sweden, where he adopted the name Richard and entered Swedish naval service, becoming an admiral, see [SSNE 4137].
