James Cressett became a British representative to the House of Brunswick in Hannover on 28 August 1693. By 1698 he was agent to the Lower Saxon Circle while an authorisation for James Cressett as envoy to Denmark survives from 1699. He remained agent to the Lower Saxon Circle in September 1700 and based himself in Hamburg, though he also visited Brandenburg-Prussia (Berlin). He took diplomatic instruction from there to London also.
