Axel Duwall was the son of Gustaf Duwall [SSNE 2450], and grandson of Jacob Duwall [SSNE 1623] (and therefore great-grandson of Albrekt Macdougal [SSNE 2444]). Born in 1667, Axel studied at Uppsala university before joining the army. He enlisted into the Liferegiment in 1689 and became colonel and chief of the Narke and Varmland regiment in 1715. In 1712 he wrote asserting his Scottish heritage and the origins of the MacDougall family. It is asserted in some sources that the Jacobites had actively sought Swedish aid for their cause and, Axel intriguingly visited Great Britain in 1717. He then became colonel and chief of the Östgöta and Sodermanland regiment in 1721. He eventually became major general by 1722. He died childless on 12 July 1750.
