Albrecht MacDougall was the son of Patrick MacDougall of Mackerston and Margaret Nisbet. Albrecht served as a sheriff (befallningsman) for Örby and environs by 1615, having arrived in Sweden in 1594. On 24 November 1615 he signed a receipt for salt. Later an Albrekt Macdougal, probably the same man, served as first captain in Henrik Fleming's Karelia regiment, and in 1625 he was captain in Gustaf Horn's Savolaks regiment. He was the father of nine sons and three daughters. Of these we can identify his sons Jacob MacDougall [SSNE 1623], Tobias Macdougall [SSNE 2475], Axel MacDougall [SSNE 2446] and Maurits MacDougall [SSNE 2473], albeit only Jacob and Maurits are found in Elgenstierna. Albrecht was ennobled as Duwall and died in 1641.
Albrecht had a brother, Robert MacDougall [SSNE 8346] who followed him abroad in the 1590s and established a family in Sweden including Albrecht's nephew, William MacDougall [SSNE 8347].
