David Leijel, born in Stockholm in 1660, was the son of David Leijel of Arbroath [SSNE 824], who had arrived in Sweden in 1638 with his brothers James [SSNE 4934] and Henry [SSNE 3614]. His mother was Scotswoman Catharina Honnon of the Dunfermline family of that name. David was baptised in Nicolai Kyrka in Stockholm on 11 August 1660.
After graduating from Uppsala on 30 January 1673, David became involved in the family business, an ironworks cofounded by his father at Älvkarleö around 1678. By 1683 he was a "Svea Hovsrätt" and joined the Bergskollegium on 12/10/1688. He was the Bergmastare in Uppland in 1691, and assessor by 1714.
In 1696 he had a manor house known as Fleräng built on the family estate. It still stands today. It was likely this David Lyall, noted as 'brukspatron' who owned the house located at Skeppsbron 28 (sometimes listed as Luna 1) in Gamla Stan sometime around 1700. A house in this location looking remarkably similar to the one that stands there today can clearly be seen on the engraving by Willem Swidde from 1693, though whether built or acquired by Leijel is yet to be established.
Along with his cousins Adam [SSNE 836] and Adam [SSNE 3772], David was naturalised as a Swede in 1717 and introduced into the House of Nobility in 1719 under the number 1532.
David married Margaretha Lundia and with her had numerous children including Anna Elisabeth [SSNE 8122] whose bookplate celebrating her birth is placed inside an English Book of Common Prayer.
David Leijel died around 1727.
