Adam Henriksson Leijell was the son of Henry Leijel (1627-1710) [SSNE 3614] who had migrated from Arbroath to Sweden. Adam's mother was Judit Rokes. His uncles were James [SSNE 4934], Adam [SSNE 6493] and David [SSNE 824]. He was also the cousin of another Adam Jacobsson Leijel [SSNE 836] with whom he worked closely in later life. Adam went to Uppsala University on 08/03/1679. Thereafter he travelled abroad (1690-1695), before returning to Sweden. He took up a formal position in the 'Bergskollegium' (College of Mines) on 30/01/1696. He thereafter became "Bergmastare" (master of the mines) in Oster och Vasterbergslagen in 1700. He was an assessor by 1713 and was ennobled on 23/04/1717. Adam was ennobled and introduced into the House of Nobility in 1719 under the number 1531. In 1718 he became director of the Hallefors silverworks where he adopted some of his cousin's metalworking techniques. In later life, Adam gained the title of regional governor (1744), but died the same year. Adam was married to Hedwig Lucia Lohe in 1713 (a daughter of Johan Lohe a merchant and factory owner). Through her he obtained property, which he subsequently passed on to his son, Henrik (1717-at least 1781).
This Henrik returned to the British Isles in 1759 and inherited from his uncles, Henry [SSNE 3725 or 2131] and Balthasar [SSNE 1051] who were directors of the English East India Company. From Balthasar, Henrik inherited Bourn, Cambridge. His name is found on a list of Freemasons of London 1728-50. He was naturalised by Act of Parliament of George II(1740) and married Catherine Allestrie (born 1729 in Alvaston, Derbyshire, England) on 16 September 1756. For date of his marriage, see The London Magazine, or, Gentleman's monthly Intelligencer, Vol XXV for the year 1756. He was a Life Governor of Adenbrooke's Hospital , Cambridge (see The Cambridge University Calendar for the year 1802, pages 199-200). He died on 26 Aug 1803 in London.
