Francis Cuningsby was an officer in the Danish-Norwegian army serving under Sir Charles Morgan [SSNE 6893]. He travelled in the company of Sir Archibald Douglas [SSNE 83]. On 20 March 1626/27, captains 'Cuningsbie and Douglas' received orders from the English Privy Council to take instructions from the British Ambassador Sir Robert Anstruther [SSNE 1472] in the absence of Morgan from Stade. Anstruther directed the men to Bremen on 16 April from where they were later recorded as being amongst the first "English" (though actually mixed British) troops in Danish service in Germany in May 1627. It was probably he who was captain for the Colonel's company in the Marquis of Hamilton's army which was sent to serve with the Swedes in June 1630. He was allowed to recruit for this company in Hertford, Kent and Middlesex
