Text source

Francis Drummond served as a soldier in the Swedish army in the first half of the 17th century. He is mentioned in the Swedish sources from around 1636 when he served as an ensign in the Kalmar regiment. He rose through the ranks until his death on 22 September 1656 in Neumarkt, Germany. Francis married into Swedish nobility through Kristina Eketrä who became his wife before 1652. Two daughters, Elisabet [SSNE 6409] and Beata [SSNE 6410] are known. He is mentioned as of noble birth in Swedish judicial records of 1654, but nowhere is it mentioned where he came from in Scotland. Francis belonged to a regiment of foreign recruits and could have been recruited as early as 1614/1615 when the regimental commander Patrick Ruthven (probably Lord of Ettrick, earl of Forth and Brentford) travelled to Scotland and returned to Sweden with about 500 Scottish recruits.
