- Applications are now closed for returning undergraduate and postgraduate students for 2025-2026.
- Applications for students beginning study in 2025-2026 opened on Saturday 1 March 2025.
- First-year single undergraduate students must apply by 30 June to be eligible for the accommodation guarantee.
Temporary accommodation
The University offers short-term temporary accommodation to students who might want to stay in St Andrews on an occasional basis only. This could be used by commuting students, students wanting to attend a social event, or around exams. To apply, please complete the Temporary Accommodation Application Form.
Summer accommodation
The University offers summer accommodation to students who are care-experienced or estranged, or have an academic requirement to stay in St Andrews over the summer period. To apply, please complete the Summer Accommodation Application Form.
Accommodation options
Students can choose to live in halls of residence or University managed houses and flats, or rent privately.
The University owned and managed accommodation is available for Undergraduates, Postgraduates and Foundation students. Accommodation is guaranteed for entrant undergraduate students, care experienced and estranged students. We also offer a limited number of guaranteed rooms for postgraduate students and flexible contracts for those studying abroad for a semester.
University managed accommodation offers a number of options and includes a range of benefits, such as:
- catered and self-catered accommodation
- en suite bathrooms or shared bathrooms
- 34, 38 or 50 week contracts
- a range of styles of accommodation, from modern purpose-built accommodation to 15th century buildings converted to student accommodation
- fully inclusive of heating, hot water, internet access and insurance, and supported by a team of University employees
- Halls Life wardens and staff in halls offer pastoral care and community building, and organise a range of events
- student committees elected by residents each year run events and report student views to the University
- free night bus service
Managed or private accommodation
Students can choose to live in University managed houses and apartments or rent privately in St Andrews and the surrounding area.
