Strathmore, 18th June 2014

University of St Andrews Staff 102/6 (20 overs) lost to Strathmore 103/3 (19 overs) by 7 wickets
(S. Frankland 43, G. Dalton 28)

The dream of an unbeaten T20 season came to an end away to Strathmore but StAUSCC put up a good performance despite having only 9 players.

Being put in to bat first, Al and Ben both fell in the second over, done by a lack of pace, to leave StAUSCC 4-2 and potentially a very short game in the reckoning. However, Stan and Graham were unflustered and put together a fine partnership of 69 on a pitch that did not always behave as expected. With Strathmore posting boundary riders from very early on boundaries were not easy to come by, although Stan displayed some excellent drives and sweeps before stumped for 43. Graham fell soon after for 28 attempting to accelerate the scoring in the last 5 overs or so. Dominic kept the score ticking over whilst wickets fell at the other, finding the gaps and running hard, before being bowled in the last over for 16 Phil finishing the innings off with a flourish with a last ball 4 to set Strathmore 103 to win.

Alyn and Phil bowled tightly to start, with Phil taking an early wicket. However, the 2nd wicket partnership weathered the early pressure as again chances of varying degrees of difficulty were put down in the field, and they gradually began to accelerate the scoring rate. Ben finally got rid of the opener for 66, James taking the catch at point, but it was a case of too little too late as Strathmore had reached 97 by that point. With 5 needed off two overs Dom came on for his first over of the season, picking up a wicket off a customary long-hop, Graham safely pouching the catch, before Strathmore reached the target off the last ball of the 19th over.

A good game, with StAUSCC doing well to take it as far as we did.
