Rossie Priory, 22nd June 2014
University of St Andrews Staff 61ao (30.5 overs) lost to Strathmore 161ao (45 overs) by 7 wickets
(A. Davies 3-18, S. Frankland 3-37)
A below-par performance saw us continue the seasons theme of dropping the oppositions best batsman
repeatedly, and then our batting crumbling in reply.
A tight early start was marred by an early injury for Phil, limiting him to just 4 overs. However, Al
took a wicket courtesy of a sharp catch from Josh at cover and Ben came on to deliver a swift spell,
taking an early wicket thanks to the vagaries of the pitch, reducing Rossie 32-2. Rossies pro came in
at 4, and mixed some good strokeplay with offering a number of chances none of which we were able to
take, as the score progressed to 82 before Ben took his second wicket.
From 125-4 there was a steady fall of wickets as Al and Stan finished with 3 wickets each, including a
stumping by Dom. The pro carried on until the 41st over where Phil grasped the catch at cover off Alyns
bowling, by which time he had made 67. A run out of the last ball meant Rossie were all-out for 161. Josh
was unfortunate to finish with no wickets as he bowled his 9 overs for just 23 runs, beating the bat
repeatedly and let down by the catching on three occasions.
In response, Josh and Alyn put on 28 for the first wicket with no real alarms, Josh looking particularly
secure in making his way to 18. However, both were to be run out as StAUSCC began gifting their wickets to
the opposition collapsing from 39-1 to 61 all out against some tight and disciplined bowling. Dom and Ben
briefly held the opposition up as they set to stabilise from the loss of 4 wicket for 6 runs but another
clutch of wickets triggered the end Dom falling for a long 13, before fittingly the final wicket went to a
run out after a dropped catch.
