Dundee High School FPs, 17th August 2014
University of St Andrews Staff 148-8 (45 overs) lost to Dundee High School FPs 151-6 (36.2 overs) by 4 wickets
(P. Smith 45, D. Bransden 35)(S. Frankland 3-26, A. Stewart 2-32)
After being put into bat, St Andrews made a steady start with Angus and Stan occupying the crease after the early fall
of Dom C. Stan was caught off a leading edge and Ross came in and proceeded to up the run-rate with a good innings of
21 before the fall of two quick wickets Angus bowled to end his vigil for 14, Ross chipping one up to be caught and
leave St Andrews at 48-4 off just over 20 overs. Consolidation was required to ensure a reasonable total was reached,
and Paul and Dom put on 61 in 15 overs to get the innings back on track. Rotating the strike well and punishing the bad
ball they progressed the score to 109 before Dom was caught and bowled off a leading edge, falling for 35 off 47 balls.
Paul carried on his way, putting on 23 with James before both were run-out in the last over quest for runs - St Andrews
finishing on 148-8 and Paul making a good 45 to form the backbone of the innings.
Early wickets were needed and Angus and Dave obliged as Dundee were reduced to 19-2 - despite Dom dropping a dolly behind
the stumps which was rectified as Phil took a good catch the very next ball to ensure no damage done. However, the DHSFPs
3rd wicket partnership settled in and began to flourish as they steered their team into a dominant position eventually
putting on 112 and taking full advantage of anything loose.
However, a breakthrough for Stan, Phil taking his second catch, saw the partnership ended with 18 still needed the victory.
The return of Angus to bowl in combination with Stan saw a late collapse of 4 wickets for 12 runs to give St Andrews an
unlikely scent of victory Stan bowling straight through for 3-26, and Angus 2-32 off his 9 overs. Two tight overs from
James dragged the game out further but eventually Dundee got to their target with no further loss of wickets.
Not quite enough runs, and some very good batting from Dundee.
