Rossie Priory XI, 21st July 2013

St Andrews Staff XI 50/1 (19.5 overs) beat Rossie Priory XI 49/ao (31.2 overs) by 9 wickets
(H. Wilson 3-14, S. Frankland 2-2, D. Miller 2-9, A. Stewart 2-10)

St Andrews claimed a convincing victory on Sunday based on a clinical bowling performance.

Bowling first after another successful toss by Dom, Alyn and Dave started off economically, although it took until the 10th over for the 1st wicket to fall with Dave bowling an excellent in-swinging yorker. Dave decided this was such an effective delivery he did it again in his next over to leave Rossie at 18 for 2 off 12 overs, with Alyn unfortunate to remain wicketless but only conceding 4 runs off his 5 overs. There was no respite when the change bowling of Angus and Henry was brought on as a period of attrition set in with only 4 runs scored in 11 overs, and 4 wickets falling in the same period. Angus claimed the remaining opener clean bowled as he advanced down the wicket, and Henry showed the benefit of bowling straight lines consistently as he claimed three wickets all bowled with his first 6 overs yielding 3 wickets for just 4 runs. Angus claimed his 2nd wicket in the alst over of his spell, with Dominic taking a catch down the legside to leave Rossie on 33 for 7.

Stan replaced Henry and soon removed the resolute Zahid, as Henry took an excellent catch despite the close attentions of the onrushing Stefan and Baggers, before clean bowling the Rossie no. 10. After a beamer to mark his return to action, Jon then settled in and finished off the innings as yet another batsmen was bowled.

With no run rate pressure Alyn and Aakash played watchfully as extras did most of the early scoring. Alyn started to play more expansively before being bowled by the economical Peters. With the in-form Stefan being promoted to 3 the run-rate was upped and Aakash also begin to score more freely. Fittingly perhaps, the winning runs came off byes, with Aakash and Stefan both finishing unbeaten on 10.
