Kinloch, 7th August 2013
St Andrews Staff XI 91/4 (18 overs) lost to Kinloch 127/6 (18 overs) by 36 runs
(H. Wilson 37, A. Davies 22) (H. Wilson 3-16, A. Stewart 3-18)
An initially short-handed Kinloch team elected to bat, and with a seemingly unusual batting
order initially struggled, with the third wicket falling in the sixth over with the score at
20. Taking these wickets may have been a mistake, as it allowed the more effective batsmen in,
just as conditions became very tricky for bowling, as the rain moved in. Persistent bowling by
all, well supported in the field (Pat taking an excellent catch), meant that only the left-handed
Mahendra really came off, hitting 54 before being caught behind off Henry. Given the condition
of the ball, unsurprisingly Wides an opponent who regularly scores well against us achieved
the second-top score, with 15. Henry, bowling at the death in the worst of the conditions, got
3 for 16. The target of 128 for victory seemed achievable while our openers, Henry (37) and
Alyn (22), rattled along at over a run a ball, but after they fell to consecutive balls in the
eleventh over with the score on 64 the tight change bowling reined in the chase, and despite a
late flurry of extras we failed to get over the line.
Overall: a competitive game played in increasingly challenging conditions against strong opponents.
