Glendelvine, 30th June 2013
St Andrews resumed their league campaign with another convincing victory away to
Glendelvine, with the returning Uday and Lewis adding a sense of nostalgia to proceedings.
After winning the toss Dom chose to field first and Dave and Angus opened up with customary
parsimony, before Dave took two quick wickets in similar fashion the ball trickling back
to knock off the leg bail after a defensive shot by the batsman. With Angus going wicketless
in the opening spell, Glendelvine progressed the score onto 42 without any further loss in
the 16th over. Uday almost had a wicket first ball, before having the remaining opener
dropped behind. In his third over he got the deserved breakthrough, Lewis taking a good
catch at cover, despite dislocating and breaking his finger in the process (although
he manfully performed fine leg duties for the remainder of the game).
With good work in the covers by Tom helping to run out the dangerous A. Ross, St Andrews
looked to take control, which was then asserted by Alyn taking 2 wickets in 3 balls to reduce
Glendelvine to 54-6, clean bowling both batsman with slightly more force than Daves earlier
efforts.
J. Ross then tucked into some loose bowling before Aakash bowled an excellent containing
spell and was unlucky to see a couple of catches dropped (although one was by himself). With
the partnership having reached 43 , hauling Glendelvine up to 97 in the 30th over, Angus
returned to make the important breakthrough and have J. Ross lbw, before gaining a second
wicket with a safe catch from Alyn. Dave returned to pick up a well deserved 3rd wicket
in finishing with an excellent 3-8 off 7 overs before Dom polished off the innings, taking
the final wicket after being hit for consecutive boundaries to leave Glendelvine on 116
all out.
After an excellent tea St Andrews got off to a quick start in the chase, despite the early
loss of Dave, as Alyn dispatched anything short on his way to a run a ball 16. After Alyn
was caught on the boundary St Andrews were left on 35-2 in the 7th over, well ahead of the
required rate. Tom and Uday then joined together for a well-constructed 45 run partnership,
Tom in particular hitting some excellent boundaries to break the back of the chase before
being caught behind.. After Toms dismissal, Uday continued to play calmly and gradually
accelerate thanks to his ability to pick the gaps. With Dom going cheaply it was left to
Aakash to provide staunch support at the end as Uday progressed to a much deserved 50
before finishing off the chase.
A convincing victory against some pleasant opposition to keep us unbeaten heading into this
weekend's clash with Perth Doocot.
