Dollar 128/8 (20 overs) beat University of St Andrews Staff XI 87/8 (20 overs) by 41 runs
(W. Cumming 3-12) (T. Clemens 34)
St Andrews continued their lack of success in Wednesday night cricket
following the usual formula of losing the toss, bowling first and batting
in the dark.
In a match shortened to 18 overs a side Alyn and Aakash opened the bowling
tidily, with Will taking a turn behind the stumps. Aakash made the only
breakthrough of the opening spell, clean bowling Buchanan-Smith with the
score on 29. The next 2 batsman then put on a 50 partnership, with good
running between the wickets interspersed with occasional boundaris on a
very grassy outfield. After proceeding to 81 for 1, Dollar were then
pegged back in the middle overs with Will and Richard finishing things
off admirably. Richard took his first wicket for the club in a tidy first
over, before Will followed up with a triple-wicket maiden to rip out the
middle order - Dom and Tom taking catches to go with a bowled. A late
flurry by the Dollar no. 9 saw them finish on 128 off their 18 overs.
After a circumspect start Tom and Alyn began to accelerate the run-rate,
both hitting 6s in a partnership of 53 before Tom was caught on the boundary
and Alyn fell next ball. Lewis fell trying to play aggressively, whilst Michael
scored his first runs for the club and looked to be playing well before
becoming the 4th wicket to fall, with the score on 65.
Some frantic running to try and keep vaguely up with the rate saw the
lower-middle order run-out Stefan, Dom and Aakash all going in this way,
and Stan chipping a catch to end a brief cameo. Will and Richard saw out
the remaining few balls with a win never likely as St Andrews finished on 87-8.
