Finally a glimpse of summer as a much changed Staff team played an entertaining but ultimately unsuccessful 20/20 match against Rossie Priory. Bowling first having won the toss, we started well with Alyn and Steve keeping control of the aggressive opening batsmen. Control was largely lost as they attacked Patrick's wayward bowling but Ben produced a fiery spell to claim 3 good wickets, 2 with his trademark slower ball and one courtesy of a good catch by Stefan at 2nd slip. Aussie opener Wilson hit both good and bad balls very effectively and reached 50 before Steve ran him out with an excellent direct hit from short fine leg. The fielding generally held up well although Stan was unlucky to only claim one dismissal in his 4 over spell and although Alyn and Abdul strove hard they could not quite nick the final wicket as MacAlpine used all of his experience to hit out and push Rossie's score to 100 off the 20 overs.

A target of 5 per over should have been achievable, even with a reduced batting line up and Stan and Alyn got things off to a solid start until Alyn was well caught off the brisk bowling of Khan for 5. Stan continued in good form but Tom struggled for timing against slow, nagging bowling and wasn't able to play his natural game - finally bowled by Reid to bring Ben to the crease. As the rate required began to rise, Ben couldn't quite hit out to his satisfaction and following several excellent boundaries and a sequence of well run singles, Stan finally fell to a direct hit run out, leaving us on 47-3 in the 11th over. The innings then faltered with 13 runs from the next 5 overs but Ben finally began to find his range and with Helen picking up regular singles the chase finally picked up some momentum. With 27 needed from 2 overs, Ben and Steve scrambled manfully but came up 15 runs short.
