Forthill (127-8) beat St Andrews Uni Staff (101-8)
Another 20/20 defeat but a solid fielding performance and nice to play a game in warm sunshine! Having been asked to play on astro for no obvious reason, the opening bowlers were punished for anything pitched short with a young, strong Forthill team hitting hard through the line. The bowlers persevered with wickets being nipped out a regular intervals - one for Dave, one for Josh and two for Cap'n Bransden attempting to repeat last year's 4-fer heroics with the ball. With a few tricky chances going down in the field, the bowlers resorted to caught and bowled as their prefered method of dismissal - 3 in the innings of which Joe's was perhaps the most spectacular as it involved a diving leap of Olympic proportions. Although thankfully he didn't have a skimpy cossie on at the time.... The Forthill scorecard was bolstered by Adam Hill (37) and a hard hitting knock from A Cameron who was dismissed towards the close for 48, having been instrumental in getting his team to 127-8. Needing just above 6 per over to win, Ross and Stan started in fine fashion, putting on 52 for the first wicket before Ross perished for 24 in the 10th over. Stan continued to put pressure on the field, knocking frequent singles and the occasional boundary as the dew fell and darkness descended. However, no one managed to stay with him and a sequence of scores under 10 never threatened the Forthill change bowlers, who stuck well to their task despite some increasingly ragged fielding - missing an increasing number of straight forward run out opportunities. Stan eventually perished for a fine 42 leaving Dom and Dave stranded in the dark. Hoping for better luck on Sunday.
