University of St Andrews Staff (111-7, 20 overs) lost to Falkland XI (112-0, 18.3 overs) by 10 wickets (B. Reiss 50)
With summer well and truly arrived, we travelled to Falkland's attractive ground to play a team made up of their 1st and 2nd XI players. Winning the toss and deciding to bat in the strong evening sunlight St Andrews were quickly under pressure with 2 early wickets falling against a brisk opening attack. Falkland shifted their bowlers around frequently and fielded well to keep all but Ben in check - some fine back foot smashes rattling his score along to 50 in 42 balls before being bowled by the Falkand Overseas Amateur, who returned to close the bowling. Some enterprising running from Tim and Abdul helped get our score past 100 which had merit considering the quality of the attack. Falkland's openers were troubled at times by Alyn's pace and substantial movement off the (mossy) pitch from Henry who was unlucky to go wicketless in another fine spell. As the outfield became dewy and evening descended our fielding became a little ragged. Despite brave efforts from Tim and Stefan, the Falkland batsmen used a gigantic boundary on one side to good effect, running 3's and 4's as they moved steadily to the target. Credit to all the bowlers who stuck to good lines and made Falkland wait until the 19th over before they eased over the line.
