University of St Andrews 3rd XI, 21st April 2011

University of St Andrews Staff 96 for 6 (20 overs) lost to University of St Andrews 3rd XI 112 for 8 (20 overs) by 16 runs
(T. Clemens 48, O. Kassaar 16*), (S. Frankland 4-15)

A noticeably stronger Uni team managed a comfortable win in the fog leaving the series tied one apiece. We started reasonably well with the ball with some good bowling from Jon & Patrick and a splendid direct hit run out by debutant Omar Kassaar who disposed of the dangerous Ashworth before he had got going. Another direct hit from Baggers kept the wickets falling and although the students scored well in boundaries they were tied down between times by Dave and Angus, before Stan came in to hoover up 4-15, taking his tally for the season to 7 already!

Our chase never really got going against disciplined bowling which gave away few loose deliveries or extras. The only substantial partnership came about when Omar joined the well set Tom Clemens at the fall of the 4th wicket and as Tom smashed some imperious boundaries on his way to 48, Omar manipulated the strike, staying until the end for a promsing 16 n.o. Dave wielded his new bat to fine effect by smacking a 6 in the last over but the required 23 from 6 never looked terribly likely!

Still, a fun if chilly evening and we wish the students all the best for their forthcoming BUCS matches.
