St Andrews University Staff 34 a/o (17.4 overs) lost to Dundee University Staff 36-1 (7.5 overs) by 9 wickets
St Andrews experienced a sharp decline in fortunes on Wednesday night as the Ferrier Cup was ruthlessly wrenched from our grasp. Having battled for an hour to reach Dundee, we then proceeded to try and finish the game in as little time as possible to ensure we could reach the Whey Pat nice and early. Winning the toss and batting first clearly caused much confusion amongst the team as we folded to some well-disciplined Dundee bowling. Stan fell stumped in the first over to start a procession of wickets, 8 of them bowled or lbw on a pitch that was keeping low. With the score at 14 for 9, St Andrews managed to sneak past the season's low score thanks to a last wicket partnership of 20 between debutant Will and captain Dominic, who finished unbeaten on 14 - the only score above 5 in an innings that included 6 ducks. With such a low total to defend, building pressure was not going to be easy, and despite some tight bowling by Angus, and a very close LBW shout from Phil, Dundee's openers progressed to 29 without too much trouble. Thankfully, Will managed to spare us the embarassment of a 10 wicket defeat - his third ball taking the outside edge and Dom taking a sharp chance at slip. A rare disappointing performance from our much vaunted batting line-up, roll on our attempt to reclaim the trophy next year.
