University of St Andrews Staff 186-6 (40 overs) beat Arrowdawn Gordonians XI 85 all out (22 overs) by 96 runs (S. Frankland 56)(D. Miller 5-9, A Stewart 2-19)
On a blustery day with the occasional sharp shower St Andrews racked up another 25 League points with a comprehensive win against our Aberdonian opponents. Although Dom lost the toss, he and Dave put on a solid opening partnership and when Dave was bowled, Stan kept things ticking over with Dom and then Tom, as the bowling steadily got easier past 25 overs. Tom fell LBW but Stan ploughed on regardless to 56, whilst Uday pumped boundaries on his way to a rapid 34. Both fell in quick succession leaving us on 153 with 5 overs left - time used to considerable effect by Ben and Paul who put on 30 runs to bring us up to a highly competitive 183. After a sumptuous tea the opening bowlers did very well to cope with stormy conditions and restrict the opening batsmen to a few streaky runs. Angus made the first break through, using the gusting wind to bowl the dangerous Campbell round his legs. The other opener followed 10 runs later as Ben got a deserved wicket by bowling Airey, whose attempt to hoick across the line proved a pattern for many of the subsequent wickets to fall. Angus and Ben each won LBW decisions to dig deeper into the middle order where the Gordonians captain and their wicketkeeper produced a stand of brief menace before an inspired bowling change brought Dave on to remove the two set batsmen in consecutive deliveries. Uday had time to nip in with a wicket before Dave wrapped things up in his second over with two more clean bowled dismissals bring him outstanding figures of 2-0-9-5. A fine all round fielding performance complemented the disciplined bowling and leaves us with maximum points from two League games.
