Match Report - Almond valley Sixes, 28th June 2009

In contrast to the foregoing cricket week from hell, the 6 of us who travelled to Perth on Sunday actually managed to WIN the tournament, expertly organised as ever by Almond Valley.

After a gentle opening work out against the AV 3rd team where Tom & Dom chased a relatively modest 36 with some ease, we faced the tougher prospect of the AV 1st team. A powerful assault on their bowling by Tom, Dom and Chetan posted a demanding total of 67 (the highest of the day) which was defended despite the best efforts of John McKenzie deploying the Dilshan-scoop. Dundee Uni Staff came next and Scott continued to torment the bowlers, setting us a stiff 58 to win. The dominent opening partnership of Clemens and Bransden made short work of that total, however, as they knocked off the runs in 3.3 overs!

Our final game would decide the tournament against the strong and unbeaten AV 2nd team/South African select. They came at us hard and the batsmen did very well to get up to 47. The AV team had serious hitters in their line up but a superb combined effort by the bowlers and fielders strangled the runs and took regular wickets to leave them with an impossible 30 to win off the last over.

Special mention to the exhausted Captain Clemens whose 80+ runs for twice out was the best of the tournament and Faaiz who took 5 wickets in his four miserly overs.

Here's hoping its an omen for better performances to come in the longer forms of the game!
