A gallant effort for the first match of the season resulted in a narrow loss to Montrose. Mike continued his unbeaten record in winning the toss and elected to field. Excellent spells from the opening pair of Angus and Arnab, with Arnab claiming two wickets with catches from Baggers and Mike. Stan then stepped up and took the first of several wickets with a cunning full toss, whilst at the other end Alex started a long and very tidy spell going for only 19 runs with a wicket from an excellent high catch by Tom. The solid bowling was backed up by some good fielding and excellent glove work by Sean. The bowling moment of the day goes to Baggers for some of the most spectacularly hopefully lbw appeals in the history of the game. Montrose clubbed their way to 175 all out. Mike and Stuart opened the batting with a very impressive 50 partnership, with both batsmen scoring at great speed with just a little help from the wicket keeper. Mike finished on 25 and Stuart 26 with a quick 10 from Stan to leave the middle order plenty of time to knock off the rest. Unfortunately first match rustiness ensued with 4 wickets falling in quick succession. On debut Ivan steadied the ship showing some excellent form to finish on 38, assisted by Arnab they made a 40 partnership with perhaps the best running between the wickets ever witnessed. We finished 144 all out.
