St. Andrews 291-7 (S. Frankland 100*, S. Cross 69, T. Clemens 31) Largo 83 all out (A. Smith 4-4, A. Stewart 3-8, A. Jayasundera 2-34) St. Andrews won by 208 runs. We won our second game of the week after victory over Cupar on Wednesday night with a crushing win over Largo on a gloriously sunny St. Andrews Sunday. The staff batted first, and after David and Mike fell early on, Stan and Stu tucked into some inexperienced Largo bowling. After a tremendous partnership of 126, Stu was eventually run out for a fine 69, with 12 boundaries. Ivan (15) then provided sound support as Stan moved steadily to three figures, retiring on 100 which included 16 fours and one six. Tom Clemens came in and acclerated the scoring with some fine hitting and swift running between the wickets, eventually run out attempting a single best described as extremely ambitious! Mike was supported by Matt, Jon and Alex (playing after the game was made 12 per side), who hit a quick 16 to take the score past the club's highest on record, (275-2 vs. Falkland in 2003) to 291-7. The staff continued their fine work in the field, with Angus and Matt bowling superbly to reduce Largo to 12 for 4, Angus dismissing the top three; one bowled, one leg before and one well caught by David at second slip. Jon and Anil kept up the pressure, both demosntrating their improved consistency, with some good bowling. Jon picked up the wicket of top-scorer A. Warinder, who played on and Anil dismissed Z. Shafiq after he'd hit a few lusty blows and Stewart, caught by Angus. Alex replaced Jon and picked up a wicket in his second over, followed by two from successive balls at the end of his third, the first courtesy of an excellent running catch by Jon, who narrowly avoided colliding with a converging Stan. At the other end, Ivan made his bowling debut for the club, with some accurate off spin. Alex returned for his fourth over on a hat trick and completed the feat after Jon took a second catch (again with others converging on the ball) off B. Rintoul's leading edge! Great batting and bowling performances by St. Andrews resulted in a record innings total for the club, the third century of the season (Stan's second), the first hat trick for the club since Angus' in 2006 and a margin of victory that cannot have been matched in recent seasons.
