A mixed team faced Largo on their astro pitch, putting in a decent performance before succumbing to the traditional batting woes. Largo won the toss and batted, facing some hostile bowling from Mudi and some extreme swing from Angus - both taking good early wickets before Largo's 1st XI batsmen got stuck in to the change bowlers. A couple of chances went begging until debutant Jon Bagnall took his first Staff team wicket with Vit taking a good catch at extra cover. Lewis Dean bowled well on debut and Mike Harrison once again put in sterling service behind the stumps with a tidy performance not helped by waywardness from most of the bowlers. The innings was closed by Patrick and Stan, with varying degrees of success and a target of 8 runs per over was laid down in the gathering gloom.
Mudi and Andy Vivian opened and had Largo ruffled with some powerful biffing and aggressive running before Mudi was run out by a direct hit from mid off. Wickets started to fall as the run rate crept away from us and although Stan, Stu Cross and Mike Harrison made decent starts, the Largo bowling and fielding was more disciplined than our own - a second direct hit accounting for Mike (with an assist from Stan). As the target disappeared into the evening mist, Lewis had to watch on as the tail swiped merrily to very little effect, with Vit providing the final moment of humour by being hit "amidships" as Henry Blofeld might say. Our final total of 115 was not without merit and a very pleasant evening was had by all with Largo being their usual friendly selves.
