As luck would have it, Tayside had one of its sunny days and we enjoyed a pleasant 20/20 fixture at Forthill's well kept ground. The pitch rewarded full length bowling although exceptionally slow bounce was to confound several batsmen through the evening. Our first wicket came courtesy of some smart fielding from Aman who combined with Matt to run out their No. 2 batsman without facing. Wickets fell at regular intervals with several false shots to modest deliveries providing catches for Patrick, Nick, Aman and Jon Bagnall. Few batsmen could cope with the dizzying mixture of good balls and wides which most of the bowlers served up and the Forthill middle order was ripped out by Baggers' fearsome pace, forcing two batsmen to play on in one over. Ground fielding was general good with John Gilmore and debtant Alastair Durie chasing down several well stuck shots and saving boundaries. Extras top scored with 34, K. Singh belied his youth with some well placed shots to make 28 and late order hitting from S. Murphy (22) brought Forthill up to a respectable 126-8
Cap'n Stan and Matt started the reply briskly but Matt found the deep set fielder to depart for 12 and Fergus, after playing some lovely shots, picked out the same man, another victim of the dead slow bounce. As Nick came in the ground darkened under thunder clouds, making their off spinners difficult to play and a number of frugal overs left us with 50 ish needed from 6 overs. Nick was stumped trying to press on and Aman came in to join Stan who had played most of the bowlers with calm confidence. As Forthill fiddled around to make up the overs, Stan and Aman let rip, accelerating beyond the required rate with a series of boundaries and aggressive running of 2's and 3's which dragged Stan to another excellent 50. As the 19th over commenced, heavy rain began to soak all concerned so Aman decided to finish things off with a 6 and a 4 in consecutive balls, pulling us past the winning post with a rapid 31.
