On a lovely sunny evening, perfect for batting, we did quite well at the start of our derby match vs Dundee, with Roy and Sid playing some attractive shots and looking relatively untroubled. Bit of a wobble ensued with Dundee's left armer nipping it back to bowl Roy and Matt in successive balls and Sid charging down the pitch to a slow full toss which he top edged back to the bowler. Decorum was re-established by Dave and Aman who played himself in nicely before hammering 20 in one over, moving the score into the 80's before nicking one behind for 30. Dundee brought on their secret weapon and we were well and truly Willied as Mr Anderson produced a wicket maiden in the 19th over and Dundee's captain only conceded 3 in the 20th.
We had been hoping for 120 and needed an excellent opening spell from Matt and Angus to drag the game back - Matt bowling fast and benefitting from a flying leap by Roy at 1st Panda to remove one danger man and Angus nipping the ball around to great effect, bowling two and inducing a nick which was well taken by Deepak behind the stumps. The fielding in general held up well as Dundee's strong middle order attacked confidently, moving the ball into gaps and hitting some cracking 4's but runs were saved and the pressure built when the main batsman was bamboozled by Alex Smith and chipped it to Phil at gully. Tight death bowling by Patrick and Alex cranked up the pressure and a series of run outs left Dundee needing 10 off Alex's final over which they narrowly failed to achieve.
All in all an excellent team performance, well marshalled by Roy and with all the bowlers making important contributions to a game played in a very good spirit - if not in terribly good light, towards the end!
