2017: Telling Tales

The MUSA Young Artist Award is an annual art competition for schools in Fife. Our Young Artists this year explored different ways of telling stories and representing words with their artworks.

Winning entries were displayed at the Byre Theatre.

Telling Tales

This year 1130 pupils took part in workshops with staff and a further 316 participated in an online session using GLOW.  A total of 791 budding young artists sent in their entries for the 32 prizes on offer.

Entries were judged by Beano cartoonist Jim Glenn, Jean Kemp, a retired teacher and former volunteer on the Young Artist Award, and Claire Robinson, MUSA's Collections and Exhibitions Curator.  Entries were judged on the basis of:

  • Originality and creativity
  • Confident handling of materials
  • Boldness and impact
  • An obvious link to collections at MUSA

The judges were impressed by the standard of the artworks and awarded Special Merits to 14 additional pupils.
