Young Artist Award

2016: Globetrotters

People all over the world are different and yet we all share things in common. This year our young artists took a trip across the globe to explore different places, people and cultures, their art and life elsewhere compares to life in Scotland.

Winning entries were displayed at the Gateway Galleries between 28th May and 20th August. You can also see them below.

Globetrotters

This year’s competition was the biggest yet.  A total of 1393 pupils took part in workshops and for the first time we received over 1000 entries.

Entries were judged by Dr Sabine Hyland, Lecturer in Social Anthropology at the University of St Andrews, photographer Kit Martin and Stephen Sinclair, General Manager at the Byre Theatre.  Entries were judged on the basis of:

  • Originality and creativity
  • Confident handling of materials
  • Boldness and impact
  • An obvious link to collections at MUSA

The judges were impressed by the standard of the artworks and awarded Special Merits to 18 additional pupils.
