Young Artist Award

2015: Brilliant Bodies

The human body has been one of the key subjects depicted by artists for millennia, from primitive cave paintings to modern day sculpture. Artists have also played an important role in helping us understand how our bodies work. Brilliant Bodies was therefore the perfect subject for the 2015 theme.

Winning entries were displayed at the Gateway Galleries between 6th June and 22nd August and also feature below.

 Brilliant Bodies

The competition in 2015 was the biggest yet. A total of 1274 pupils took part in workshops and we received 903 entries.

Entries were judged by Dr Susan Whiten, Lecturer in Anatomy at the University’s School of Medicine, Dr Karen Brown from the School of Art History and Matthew Jarron, Curator at the University of Dundee.

Entries were judged on the basis of:

  • Originality and creativity
  • Confident handling of materials
  • Boldness and impact
  • An obvious link to collections at MUSA

The judges were impressed by the standard of the artworks and awarded Special Merits to 13 additional pupils.
