The Scottish Credit Accumulation and Transfer (SCOTCAT) system allows credits gained in Scotland to be transferred between institutions. The number of credits associated with a module gives an indication of the amount of learning effort required by the learner. European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits are half the value of SCOTCAT credits.

Module description

This module comprises two components and further develops the analytical skills and insights required for Management. Firstly, The Management Kaleidoscope examines some of the alternative perspectives on Management and the changing policy and business environment for organisations. It will explore the emergence of alternative organisational forms, such as community ownership or co-operatives and look at the growth of hybrid organisational forms and practises. Secondly, the Analysis of Financial Data component builds on module MN1002 Introduction to Financial Accounting which introduced some popular accounting techniques. This component addresses three aspects of finance including personal, corporate/business and public/government. Historical accounts, contemporary issues, case studies from around the world and considerations for future finance will be presented.

Awards

Golden Dandelion Award for excellence in Education for Sustainable Development

This module puts the human and non-human relationship in focus by challenging management and organisations as well as equipping students with critical thinking tools. It introduces students to vegan business and economy and fills an important gap in the discussion of how management can be sustainable. This module has been awarded the Golden Dandelion Award in 2022.
