SCOTCAT credits

The Scottish Credit Accumulation and Transfer (SCOTCAT) system allows credits gained in Scotland to be transferred between institutions. The number of credits associated with a module gives an indication of the amount of learning effort required by the learner. European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits are half the value of SCOTCAT credits.

The Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) provides an indication of the complexity of award qualifications and associated learning and operates on an ascending numeric scale from Levels 1-12 with SCQF Level 10 equating to a Scottish undergraduate Honours degree.

Module description

A two-week intensive Arabic language course introducing complete beginners to the fundamentals of Modern Standard Arabic (level 1 in speaking, listening, reading, and writing). Students will spend 5 hours per day learning and practicing Arabic in classroom. Students should plan on studying additional 3-4 hours in afternoons. Class work will be supplemented with cultural activities in afternoons and evenings. At the conclusion of the course, students can expect to have mastered the sounds and shapes of the Arabic alphabet, to be able to speak about themselves and their life, as well as to engage in conversations and basic written communications about familiar topics in Modern Standard Arabic.
