Module description
Students in this module will study the drama of Shakespeare and his contemporaries and acquire knowledge of contemporary critical approaches to the subject. They will consider how the plays of this period present different varieties of tragic form while also relating them to the theatrical and cultural conditions of the period.

Intended learning outcomes
- Display a direct knowledge of the set texts, gained by close reading of those texts and reading of supplementary primary and secondary material.
- Identify and undertake appropriate secondary reading on Shakespeare and the drama of his time, guided by the module handbook.
- Deploy an appropriate critical terminology for discussing the drama of the period.
- Construct logical, persuasive arguments which are presented in correct and fluent English.
