The Scottish Credit Accumulation and Transfer (SCOTCAT) system allows credits gained in Scotland to be transferred between institutions. The number of credits associated with a module gives an indication of the amount of learning effort required by the learner. European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits are half the value of SCOTCAT credits.

Module description

This module allows students to explore topics in greater depth than is possible in core modules. Students are encouraged to discuss a topic of interest with their tutor. Teaching/supervision is normally via 6 tutorials which may be individual or arranged in groups, depending on numbers. Some special topics may make use of relevant individual seminars on extant modules in place of one or more tutorials. Syllabus and reading will be finalised in consultation with the member(s) of staff.

Assessment pattern

two pieces of work totalling 6000 words, normally 2 x 3000 word essays

Re-assessment

One essay totalling 4500 words.
