The Scottish Credit Accumulation and Transfer (SCOTCAT) system allows credits gained in Scotland to be transferred between institutions. The number of credits associated with a module gives an indication of the amount of learning effort required by the learner. This module is available to students who wish to undertake this as a 15-credit stand-alone module or to those undertaking the Postgraduate Diploma or MSc in Health Professions Education. Module description

This module will focus on curriculum development in health professions education. Students will have the have opportunity to further explore important considerations for designing, developing, implementing and evaluating an undergraduate or postgraduate credited short programme or course of study, targeted at health professionals. This module will further deepen students’ knowledge of designing high quality learning and enable students to develop leader skills in curriculum development. This module will be fully online with a mix of synchronous and asynchronous learning. Live synchronous teaching will be scheduled in GMT. Participants must have access to a device with internet connection, webcam, and a microphone.

Weekly contact

The module will comprise approximately 2 hours synchronous teaching delivered fortnightly where attendance will be required. Participation is also required for any scheduled group work.

Intended learning outcomes

  • By the end of the module students will demonstrate critical awareness of processes involved in curriculum and programme design, development and approval.
  • By the end of the module students will be able to design and develop an evidenced based proposal for an undergraduate or postgraduate credited short programme or course of study, targeted at health professionals.
  • By the end of the module students will be able to rationalise and justify a credited programme of study targeted at health professionals.
  • By the end of the module students will be able to demonstrate leadership skills in educational development.
